This page provides a simple step-by-step guide on how to make international phone calls.
4 simple steps to make an international call
- Before making the call, first dial the IDD number (International Direct Dialing Number). This can be found on the other document in this series; see International Direct Dialing Number codes. Different countries may have different numbers, or indeed, have more than one IDD depening on the carrier , type of service and geographical location.
- Next, dial the country code of the country you are trying to call. This can be found on the other document in this series; see International Country Calling codes.
- Finally, dial the city / area code, if appropriate, for the number you are dialing. Please note: smaller countries may not use city or area codes.
- Now you have enabled the phone to connect to an international line, now dial the telephone number of the person you are trying to call.
